Politicians are always happy to do anything that will let them announce
they're creating jobs, even if it doesn't make economic sense and the
jobs are heavily subsidised, underpaid and/or far fewer than claimed. A
citizen's dividend or universal basic income will put a floor under
living conditions and boost the local economy far more than corporate
welfare.
