"Alinta Energy and consumer renewables specialist National Renewable Network
have announced the launch of a new virtual power plant deal that offers
participants a rooftop solar and home battery system with no upfront cost, no
financing, and no repayments.
The new VPP product, called Solar Together, is being launched in South
Australia and New South Wales following a successful 50-customer pilot in New
South Wales. It will then expand into Victoria and Queensland in coming months.
The VPP builds on the National Renewable Network (NRN) mission to boost access
to solar and battery storage for households across Australia through
“zero-cost” retail energy plans.
In this case, Alinta Solar Together customers pay for the solar power they use
– at a cheaper rate than traditional grid power – and any electricity from the
grid according to a time-of-use plan. A fixed daily fee of $0.11c covers
network costs and provides access to the VPP.
Alinta says that based on the results of the pilot, VPP participants would
typically save 18-22% on their regular energy bills.
Customers would take ownership of the solar and battery system after 12 years,
but can buy them at any time at a price that gets cheaper as the system gets
older. Alinta says this gives customers the chance to try the benefits of solar
before they invest."
